“what’s to stop us pretty baby”

June 27, 2011

I didn’t think to write it down at the moment, but my mother said something really lovely to me the other day.  She is still talking about the wedding. She, in fact, called that day to convey to me the giddiness of a lesbian friend of hers (who i don’t even really know) over our wedding photos. Being gay has been so easy for me that it is simultaneously awkward (in that, um, i’m just doing my thing) and awesome (’cause, uh, making people giddy is awesome) to see people’s reactions to that – especially from older generations (not that there aren’t people who have it hard now, but i think it’s significantly different from a generation in which pretty well everybody had it hard). Anyhow, i was just here to convey this cool thing my mom said, along the lines of:

It’s pretty exciting to see your daughter choosing to spend her life with someone who is fantastic and a good person, and it is especially amazing to see that her parents are as excited that she has chosen to spend her life with someone they think is fantastic and a good person.

Yeah, i don’t remember the word-for-word, but it’s completely sweet and i think it says a lot about how awesome our families are.

And then i got home to find Jamie sitting in the dark on the porch because she’d forgotten her keys. So i let her in, and we got to deal with the totally decomposing rat that was rather suddenly in the middle of the floor.

Your families sound wonderfully sweet. I love their support and excitement around you, Jamie and the wedding.

I do not, however, love that rat nonsense. Yikes.

That’s a beautiful compliment to have passed along. It’s really nice that you’ve got such a supportive family!
