“my favorite thing to wear, my final thread’s about to tear”
I simply love Leo’s post on making and discarding her femininity. And the more i hear about this book, the more i think i need to read it:
“Leave femininity aside but don’t ruin it. Think of it like a castoff piece of clothes, fold it gently and leave it out where some young thing who wants it can pick it up.” (S. Bear Bergman, Butch is a Noun [San Francisco: Suspect Thoughts Press, 2006], p. 111)
Leo offered up, briefly, her femininity. And i thought for a moment, perhaps we could trade. But i’m afraid my masculinity is that favorite pair of corduroys – probably a few sizes too small at this point, and, anyhow, loved to tatters. I don’t think even all the safety pins and patches can keep it together now. And, though it’s in no shape to be given away, i can’t quite bear to just throw it out.
