“five-card poker on Saturday night, church on Sunday morning”

When the Magic Fades – a very funny article by David Brooks on “Obama Comedown Syndrome.”

These patients had experienced intense surges of hope-amine, the brain chemical that fuels euphoric sensations of historic change and personal salvation.

A conservative (Christopher Buckley) discusses why the conservatives condemn McCain for not being conservative enough (for being The Manchuran Conservative), and requests, “Would you all please just…shut…up?” My favorite – in response to conservatives saying maybe they should just let the Dems win,

This is an odd and sour banner to unfurl. It’s hard to imagine Ronald Reagan, or for that matter other conservative icons (Churchill, Margaret Thatcher), pounding the podium and announcing: “O.K., here’s the plan — we’ll tank this one and then look like heroes four years from now. Let us march!”

And, to connect those dots, The Grand Old White Party Confronts Obama – Frank Rich discusses what (even the possibility of) an Obama (and to an extent Clinton) -McCain race means politically, through this lens:

Trapped in an archaic black-and-white newsreel, the G.O.P. looks more like a nostalgic relic than a national political party in contemporary America. A cultural sea change has passed it by.

With that, i’m off home. Have a good night, my lovelies,
