“we got drunk and we danced in the rain”

October 17, 2007

Yesterday’s fortune cookie had this to say:

Now is the time for peace in your life.  Go along with other’s ideas.

Today’s fortune cookie does not agree.  It says:

Nothing can keep you from reaching your goals.  Do it!

I am in fortune cookie induced inner turmoil.  I mean, the first sounds nice, not to mention pretty easy for me.  The second is very forward – inspirational, you know?  Except for how i don’t really have goals, and if i did there are very definitely a thousand things that can keep you from reaching your goals – that’s just stupid.

Although, for the first time i have some idea of what i want to be in the future.  It’s fuzzy, kind of in images and ideas, not like “an astronaut.”  I never actually could do that, even as a kid.  I tried on “a vet” for a while, but i kind of realized that vets have to do doctor things, which would be creepy.  So i gave up on planning my life until i thought i would go to grad school.  But then i didn’t go to grad school, which put me in a bit of a no-man’s-land where i was a grown-up, but i still didn’t know what i wanted to do when i grew up.  That’s not been the problem it always seemed it would, though.  And now i finally have some ideas of things i want and ways i want to be, if not what i want to “be” (there’s that stupid thing our culture does where we identify people with their profession, ick).

Ah, well, back to work, and then to wander around in the rain…no, make that crazy wind.

Putting that on my to-do list. Make a list of “ways” I want to -be- rather than “what”. What an important observation – consider yourself a genius :)

my friend’s computer has a fortune taped to it that says “a nice cake is waiting for you.” now, that’s my kind of fortune.

hehe – Jake once got one similar to that, it says “a small lucky package is on its way”. It’s taped to our front door, it’s kind of eternally exciting.
